Like many of our dedicated volunteers, Jordan first decided that he wanted to volunteer at the Conservators Center after taking his first tour.
“I had always loved animals, especially big cats, ever since I was a small child, and seeing the animals and meeting the people [at the Center] was nothing short of awe-inspiring to me,” Jordan tells us. Though his favorite animal is the jaguar — a species that does not reside at the Center — he particularly loved our tigers, and was a big fan of one of our males, Wic.
“I admire his demeanor and imposing tiger physique,” Jordan says, “despite the fact that he thinks himself to be a lion.”
Wic is certainly inspiring, so we definitely understand Jordan’s determination to volunteer! However, at that point, Jordan wasn’t old enough to donate his time yet. Jordan continued to visit, though, and by his third tour in 2016, he had finally reached our required minimum volunteer age: 18.
Animal care and construction might seem tough to some — after all, there’s a lot of cleaning, food prep, and heavy lifting! But Jordan really loves his work. For him, the atmosphere that our community creates makes every task enjoyable. He appreciates the presence of other volunteers and staffers who care about our residents as much as he does.
Our animals, though, will always have a special place in his heart.
“I continue to volunteer at the Center due to the simple fact that I know, no matter what I’m doing, I am helping the animals I love…not just the wonderful animals at the Center, but their entire species, by making sure the community is educated about these beautiful creatures, and doing whatever can be done to promote their well-being. I know that my help is for an extraordinary cause.”
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves, Jordan! Thank you so much for your hard work.
