Roy Bobcat

Roy Bobcat is retired from a small zoo in Maggie Valley that was closing its doors after 51 years. We took in several of their animals who had limited options for a good home.

Among them was Roy, then 20 years old, with one eye milky from cataracts, both ears shrunken from the removal of blood clots years before, and sporting a little old bobcat poochy belly. He won our heart immediately. He is no pushover, and will tell you what he thinks of you if you startle him or make him mad. But overall, he is just thrilled to be living in the grass and sunshine, and being able to hide under his platforms when tour groups come through.

He still patrols his territory at night in the shape of his previous enclosure, which created a round walking track in the middle of his habitat. Then he spends time watching the lemurs next door and speaking with the lovely lady caracal on the other side. He has trained all the keepers to feed him his special diet right by the door so he doesn't have to wait an extra second for it. He thanks them and other treat-bringers by huffing out his cheeks and saying "vvvvvvvvvvvvhhh."
